September 25, 1951 - September 3, 2011

Paula Raye Smith-Wray
BYRDSTOWN--Paula Raye Smith-Wray, 59,
passed away at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3,
2011, at her home near Star Point Marina
with her loving nurse and husband at her side.
Mrs. Wray was born Sept. 25, 1951 in Johnson
County, In. and attended school in Noblesville,
IN. She then went to
Ball State University and
studied at Oxford in England.
Mrs. Wray was the first of four
children born to James O.
Bright (Michelle) of Naples,
FL. and Jean I. (Martin) Callahan
of Martinsville, IN. She
made numerous friends wherever
she lived in Indiana, New
York, Florida and most recently in Tennessee.
She spent most of her adult life in Florida and
as a consummate salesperson/sales manager,
she owned her own New York Life Insurance
Agency in Florida and held professional designations
as a CLU, ChFC, and LTCP. Mrs.
Wray focused her most recent years on longterm
care insurance for Genworth Financial
because of her intense desire to help those in
need and her compassion for them.
Other than her parents she is survived by
husband, Ralph Wray; two daughters, Lisa of
Fort Myers, Fl.; and Kelly of Twin Cities, MN;
son, Todd of Twin Cities, MN; grandson,
Justin (Galena) of Long Island, NY; sister,
Linda Hagadone (Web) of Mooresville, IN; two
brothers, Tim (Aimee) of Tucson, AZ. and Dan
of Nashville, IN. Paula was very close to her
brothers and sisters-in-law Phyllis Wray
(John) and Nancy Wray (Jim) all of Muncie,
In., also survived by numerous nieces and
nephews. She loved them all with intensity
seldom seen on this earth.
The family has chosen cremation and a memorial
service will be held at Brown Funeral
Chapel on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 with greetings
beginning at 12 noon and services at 1:00
p.m. with Bro. Randell Sidwell officiating. Special
care provided by Brown Funeral Chapel.

Rita Faye Ford Jones
June 16, 1947 - September 3, 2011

BYRDSTOWN--Rita Faye Ford Jones, 64,
5057 Turney Groce Rd., Byrdstown passed
away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at the Livingston
Regional Hospital.
She was born June 16, 1947 in Clinton Co.,
Ky. to the late John Williams and Emogene
Flowers Ford and lived all her life in Pickett
Co. Mrs. Jones was factory worker and attended
the Wolf River Baptist Church.
Other than her parents she is preceded in
death by her husband, Doyle Jones; daughter,
Stephanie Jones; two sisters, Doris Garner
and Carol Winningham.
Survivors include daughter, Susan Winningham,
Byrdstown; brother, John Wayne
Ford, Byrdstown; three grandchildren, Ryan
& Cody Ledbetter and Tiffany Winningham.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 5,
2011 at Brown Funeral Chapel with Bro. Rick
Cross officiating and burial at Smyrna Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Matthew Ford, Larry
Jolley, William Matheny, Terry Pritchard,
Wendel Flowers and Jimmy Branham. Special
care provided Brown Funeral Chapel.

David Leslie Sturtz
February 10, 1951 - September 2, 2011

BYRDSTOWN--David Leslie Sturtz, 60, of
506 Channing Ln., Byrdstown passed away
Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 at his residence.
He was born Feb. 10, 1951 in Columbus,
OH. to the late Donald and Nancy Jones
Sturtz. Mr. Sturtz lived most
of his life in Cincinnati, OH.
and was retired from U.S.F.
Holland Trucking. He is preceded
in death by his parents.
Survivors include wife, Julie
Graham Sturtz of Byrdstown;
sister, Karen Stats of Wisconsin,
also survived by numerous
nieces, nephews, other family
members and friends. The family has chosen
cremation with a memorial service to be set a
later date. All family and friends that would
like to commemorate Dave's life are welcome
to gather at the Wolf River Grill on Saturday,
October 1, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to the American Cancer
Society or Hospice. Special care provided

Jonathan David Cook
June 8, 1980 - August 31, 2011

BYRDSTOWN--Jonathan David Cook, 31,
1201 Cordell Hull Memorial Dr. passed away
Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in Byrdstown as
a result of a tractor accident.
He was born in Putnam Co. on June 8, 1980
to Johnny Cook and Teresa Denney Cook and
lived most of his life in Fentress Co. He is preceded
in death by his grandparents, Opal &
R.L. Denney and Victor Cook.
Survivors include wife, Robin Dillon Cook,
Byrdstown; father, Johnny Cook, Clinton Co.,
KY; mother, Teresa Cook, Pall Mall; father-inlaw
and mother-in-law, Ronnie and Brenda
Dillon, Byrdstown; sister, Rachelle Potter &
husband Jeffery of Pall Mall; four nephews,
Gabe & Jasper Beaty, Byrdstown and J.L. &
Bryant Potter, Pall Mall; grandmother, Ruby
Cook, Pall Mall; grandmother-in-law, Claudine
Dillion; two sisters-in-laws, Lisa Beaty &
husband Toby and Jamie Dillon, all of Byrdstown.
Also survived by other family members
and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 2,
2011 at Brown Funeral Chapel with Tommy
Fryar officiating and burial at Wolf River
Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers included;
Mitch Wood, Jack Winningham and Bruce
McMillian. Pallbearers were Adam Evans,
Jason Elder, William Matheny, Toby Beaty,
Willard Delk and Richard Winningham. Special
care provided by Brown Funeral Chapel.

Donny Edwin Smith
July 29, 1944 - August 29, 2011

BYRDSTOWN--Donny Edwin Smith, 67, 184
Black Oak Ln., Byrdstown passed away Monday,
August 29, 2011 at his residence.
He was born July 29, 1944 in Overton Co. to
the late Homer E. and Cornelia Oakley Smith
and lived most of his life in the Nashville area.
Mr. Smith was a railroad mechanic and a veteran
of the Vietnam era serving in the Air
Other than his parents he is preceded in
death by one brother, Jerry Smith. Survivors
include two sons, Damon Smith of
Goodlettsville, TN and Daniel Smith of
Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Jane Hale, Chattanooga,
TN; and two grandchildren. Also survived
by nieces, nephews, other family
members and friends.
The family chose cremation with memorial
services held on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011 with
Bro. Ivan Raley and Jack Winningham officiating.
