BYRDSTOWN--Murray Schrier, 89, Pickett Co. Care and Rehab passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012 at the Pickett Co. Care and Rehab.
He was born July 30, 1922 in Margaretville, NY to the late William I. and Dora Fanny Cohan Schrier. Murray was a member of the United States Air Force, 100th Bomb group during WWII. He was stationed in England where he was a belly gunner on a B-17 bomber plane. Murray flew a total of 52 missions while receiving awards for: two inductions to "The Lucky Bastards Club" for surviving 20 missions; Distinguished Flying Cross with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters; European-African Service Metal; Good Conduct Medal. He was honored in 2009 at Mighty Eight Museum in Savannah, GA. He attended the Byrdstown First United Methodist Church. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sunshine Schrier; daughter, Nancy Putzan also several brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Guionnaud of Byrdstown and Linda Mcclure of Roswell,GA; son Murray I. Schrier of North Palm Beach, Fl; seven grandchildren, Mary Allen, Andre Guionnaud Jr., Stephen Guionnaud, Tia Konecney, Jade Schrier, Melaine Waxenfelter and Ryan Mcclure; four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the Byrdstown First United Methodist Church. He will be laid to rest next to his wife of 59 years at the Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens on Jan. 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in Waynesville, NC. We loved you daddy and we will miss you. BYRDSTOWN--A.L. Pierce, 74 of 8275 Faix Rd., Byrdstown passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at this residence.
He was born March 8, 1937 in Pickett County to the late Joe D. and Nana Sue Masiongale Pierce. He lived most of his life in Pickett County and was a factory employee worked as a tow motor operator and past truck driver for Storie's Automotive.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Myrthie Brown and Roxie Pierce; two brothers, Willard and Leonard Pierce; granddaughter, Amanda Moreland; great-granddaughter, McKenzie Moreland.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Sue Bilbrey Pierce; three daughters, Connie Little and husband Kenneth, Janet Walker and Janie Logan; one son, Ricky Pierce all of Byrdstown; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at Brown Funeral Chapel with Bro. Carl Cross officiating and burial at Story Cemetery. Pallbearers were Caleb Smith, Daniel Huddleston, James Neal, John Moreland, Jamon Carr and Joe Harden. BYRDSTOWN--Agnes Pearl Flowers Jolley, 75, Pickett Co. Care and Rehab, and a former resident of Moodyville Loop in Byrdstown passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 at Pickett County Care and Rehab.
She was born Nov. 8, 1936 in Pickett County to the late Montersville and Maggie Myrtle Logan Flowers. Mrs. Jolley has lived all her life in Pickett County and was a past line supervisor with Pickett Apparel, past owner and operator of By-Pass BP, a member of the Bloomington Christian Church and also a charter member of the Pickett County Horseman Association.
Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Bud Jolley; two sisters, Verna Hester and Geneva Flowers.
Survivors include daughter, Misty Dowdy and husband Dana of Byrdstown; son, Jerry Jolley and wife Denesa of Rickman; sister, Sue Riley of Muncie,IN; two brothers, Junior and Lynn Flowers both of Albany, KY; four grandchildren, Adam & Jeremy Jolley and Keyton & Garrison Dowdy; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Ethan and Maizy Jolley. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 20, 2012 at Brown Funeral Chapel with Bro. Charles Jolly and Bro. Rick Cross officiating and burial at Vann's Branch (Government) Cemetery. Pallbearers included Jeremy Jolley, Adam Jolley, Dana Dowdy, Larry Jolley, Don Jolley, Richard Saunders. Honorary pallbearers: Keyton Dowdy, Garrison Dowdy and the Staff at the the Pickett County Sheriff Department. Special care provided by Brown Funeral Chapel.
