Former night spot burns

The building formerly known as Moogies Bar and Grill located above Sunset Marina burned down Sunday, December 21st.
The fire was called in at around 9:00 p.m. and when the Byrdstown-Pickett County Volunteer Fire Department arrived, the upper part, which was once used as apartments, was fully engulfed with high flames.
Local firefighters worked fiercely to contain the blazing inferno but the high winds and size of fire made it difficult to extinguish.
Monroe Volunteer Fire Department also assisted with containing the fire.
According to reports, the origin of the fire was suspicious and has been referred to the state's fire marshal for investigation.
Due to the recent foreclosure of the business, it was unoccupied. The buildings are owned by People’s Bank and Trust Company of Byrdstown.
