Town of Byrdstown Dec. 8th meeting minutes

The Town of Byrdstown Board of Mayor and Aldermen met in regular session on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. at Town Hall. Those present were Mayor Billy Robbins, Recorder Johnny Sells, Alderwoman Opal Clayborn, Alderman Glenn Parris, Alderman Rex Tompkins, Town Attorney Phillips Smalling, Town Engineer James Garrett, Malcolm Harmon, and Ronald Beaty.
The Mayor called the meeting to order and presented the proposed agenda. A motion was made by Rex Tompkins to adopt the agenda as presented. A second was voiced by Johnny Sells and, with all members voting aye, the motion carried.
A motion was made by Glenn Parris to approve the minutes of the Nov. 10, 2008 regular meeting as written. A second was voiced by Opal Clayborn and, with all members voting aye, the motion carried.
Under old business, there was a discussion of the Pall Mall Utility District. The Mayor will contact the Utility Board to set up a meeting to discuss water rates.
Ronald Beaty addressed the Board about selling his property to the City which could be used for City parking. After discussing the matter, the Board agreed that this is something they would not be interested in at this time due to economic reasons.
Under new business, the Mayor informed the Board that Eric Pierce was up for a two-year review. The Mayor reported to the Board that Eric is a good worker, willing to help and train in any way. A motion was made by Rex Tompkins to increase Eric Pierce’s wages 75¢ per hour retroactive to 11/20/08. A second was voiced by Opal Clayborn and, with all members voting aye, the motion carried.
A motion was made by Glenn Parris to increase Dennis South’s wages by 75¢ per hour for him receiving his Grade III Wastewater Treatment Operation Certification from the State. A second was voiced by Rex Tompkins and, with all members voting aye, the motion carried.
A motion was made by Rex Tompkins to increase Barbara Davis’ wages 75¢ per hour retroactive to 09/12/08 for receiving a required training certificate in Customer Identity Theft (Federal Trade Commission’s Red Flag Rules). A second was voiced by Johnny Sells and, with all members voting aye, the motion carried.
A motion was made by Johnny Sells to make adjustments on taxes. A second was voiced by Rex Tompkins and, with all members voting aye, the motion carried.
With no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Johnny Sells to adjourn until the next regular meeting on Jan. 12, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. at Town Hall. A second was voiced by Rex Tompkins and, with all members voting aye, the meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
