Powerful winds cause widespread power outages here last week
Pickett County experienced severe weather last Wednesday, Feb. 11 which caused power outages throughout the county.
The storm produced high winds, uprooted and broke trees that caused lines and several electric poles to break.
The most significant damage were to two major poles, pictured above, located off Highway 111 between Sportman’s Lodge and Exxon, where Volunteer Energy crews worked until the morning hours to restore power to customers.
According to a VEC press release, there were widespread outages across the 17-county service area. The worst outages were in the counties of Meigs, south Roane, and Pickett.
Power in Pickett County was off in some areas for up to 12 hours but was completely restored at about 5:30 the next morning.
If you have a power outage or dangerous condition, please call Volunteer Energy Cooperative 864-3685.
