VECustomers Share Program awards $5,000 in local grants

Volunteer Energy Cooperative’s VECustomers Share program recently awarded $5,000 in grants to community service organizations in Pickett County.
The program, founded in October of 2001, has donated $2,936,868 to various community-service organizations.
Local groups recently garnering grants include: Pickett County Junior High Science Club which received a $1,000 grant, Pickett County Junior High School Football Boosters were awarded a $1,000 grant, Pickett County High School Football Booster Club garnered $1,000, Byrdstown Masonic Lodge #496 received $1,000, and Friends of the Pickett County Library garnered a $1,000 grant,
VECustomers Share is a non-profit, tax-exempt charitable organization covering VEC’s 17-county service area. The foundation’s funds come from VEC members who have opted to allow VEC to round their electric bills up to the next whole dollar. VECustomers Share contributions average 50 cents per month per customer. The extra change is pooled with that of other members and distributed by the foundation’s board of directors, who all serve as volunteers.
