Local Rescue Squad searches for injured man

At around 1 p.m. Sunday
March 29th, Pickett County
Rescue Squad members were
contacted to search for an injured
man who was riding a
four-wheeler on Blackhouse
Mtn. backside of Strip Pits.
Authorities couldn’t locate
the riders and it took around
two and a half hours to locate
the victim who was three and
a half miles into the woods
and down a 125 ft. ledge. Rescue
members had to go down
the ledge where Wayne Howell,
69, of Jamestown, had
driven off and was complaining
that he couldn’t move from
his chest down. Workers
placed him on a back board
and he was gently taken back
up the ledge and then transported
to a field next to Forbus
Store where a helicopter was
waiting.
The helicopter was experiencing
mechanical problems
and another one had to come
to transport Howell.
