Board of Education May 11 meeting

The Pickett County Board
of Education met Monday,
May 11, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
with the following members
present: John Reagan, Chairman,
Terrell Garner, Jerry
Mitchell and Jimmy Storie.
•Motion by Terrell Garner
seconded by Jimmy Storie to
adopt the agenda and approve
the minutes from the April 13,
2009 meeting. Motion passed.
•Motion by Jerry Mitchell
seconded by Jimmy Storie to
amend Policy #6.502 Foreign
Exchange Students-Second
reading. Motion passed.
•Motion by John Reagan
seconded by Terrell Garner to
approve Amendment #1 General
Purpose School Fund as
presented by the directors of
schools. Motion passed.
•Motion by Jimmy Storie
seconded by Jerry Mitchell to
give Vicki Crawford the authority
to take and accept bids
for food and food supplies for
Food Service for the 2009-
2010 school year. Motion
passed.
•Motion by John Reagan
seconded by Terrell Garner to
give Jane Cowan the authority
to take and accept bids for
the high school pictures and
yearbook for the 2009-2010.
Motion passed.
•Motion by Terrell Garner
seconded by John Reagan to
amend Policy #4.2069 Alternative
Credit Options as follows:
Delete section on
Correspondence Courses; Add
the following: Add to number
6. or during the summer term.
The summer term will be determined
by the principal and
the teacher of record. 7. Students
who fail courses may repeat
an approved on-line
course-their grade on record
will be an average of the failed
grade and the on-line course
grade. First reading. Motion
passed.

approve updates to the wellness
policy-second reading.
Motion passed.
•Motion by Jimmy Storie
seconded by John Reagan to
adopt the TSSAA Heat Index
Policy, which states: "No activities
will be allowed when
the heat index at the location
of the activity is in excess of
104 degrees.
This includes practices and
contests at any level (middle
school and high school). This
also includes PeeWee Football.
" First reading. Motion
passed.

adjourn. Motion passed.
