Town of Byrdstown Feb. 18 meeting

The Town of Byrdstown Board of Mayor and Aldermen met in regular session on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at Town Hall.
Those present were Mayor Billy Robbins, Recorder Johnny Sells, Alderwoman Opal Clayborn, Alderman Glenn Parris, Alderman Rex Tompkins, Town Attorney Phillips Smalling, Town Engineer James Garrett, Glenn Williams, Mike Sells, Johnnye Davidson, and Ernest Copeland.
The Mayor called the meeting to order and presented the proposed agenda. A motion was made by Rex Tompkins to adopt the agenda as presented. A second was voiced by Johnny Sells and, with all members voting aye, the motion carried.
A motion was made by Glenn Parris to approve the minutes of the Jan. 11, 2010 regular meeting as written. A second was voiced by Opal Clayborn and, with all members voting aye, the motion carried.
Under old business, there was a discussion of the site located in the Clark Mountain area for a new water tank.
There was a discussion of a water line for the Ernest Copeland Development. The City is to look at trying to get a right-of-way for this water line project with details to be looked at in a later meeting.
There was a discussion regarding maintenance repairs on the sewer pump station located at the Hutchinson building.
A motion was made by Glenn Parris to add President’s Day to the holiday list for the City beginning Monday, Feb. 15, 2010. A second was voiced by Rex Tompkins. The vote was as follows: Opal Clayborn, no; Johnny Sells, yes; Rex Tompkins, yes; Glenn Parris, yes. The motion carried.
Under new business, Johnnye Davidson addressed the Board regarding a backed up sewer line at her residence. Part of the roadway had to be dug up as this was on the City side of the line. The Board agreed that, in emergency situations like this, the Mayor would have the Sewer Department make repairs even if it included paying overtime, and would have on hand any necessary materials, including rock, etc., so repairs could be made at any given time.
A request was made by Shelly Patterson to have a “Slow Children are Present” sign to be put on Hillcrest Drive. The Board agreed and asked for the Mayor to order the sign.
Glenn Williams and Mike Sells addressed the Board asking for a donation for D.A.V. A motion was made by Glenn Parris to donate $200.00 to the Hull/York Chapter 5 D.A.V. A second was voiced by Johnny Sells and, with all members voting aye, the motion carried.
Next, there was a discussion of the Audit Report for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2009. With no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Johnny Sells to adjourn until the next regular meeting on March 8, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at Town Hall. A second was voiced by Rex Tompkins and, with all members voting aye, the meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
