Garner signs with Union

Garner signs with UnionJACKSON, Tenn. – The No. 1 Union University women’s basketball team is preparing to defend their 2009 NAIA National Title in less than one week.
However, head coach Mark Campbell has also made preparations for next season with the signing of Terrah Garner. Garner will enter Union this fall as a freshman.
Campbell says, “We are so excited to get a player like Terrah this late in the year. She fits perfectly into our system. She is a competitor, wants the ball when it matters and knows how to score. Terrah can score off the dribble and is a great three point shooter.” Campbell adds, “She fits perfectly into the Union family on and off the floor and will make an immediate impact.”
Garner, a 5-foot-10 guard from Pall Mall, Tenn., played her high school basketball for Pickett County High School under the leadership of head coach Brent Smith.
During her career, she recorded over 2,000 points. In Garner’s senior year, she averaged 20 points and five rebounds per game, while making 54 three pointers. She shot 49 percent from the field, 51 percent from long range and 83 percent from the free throw line.
As a junior, Garner averaged 23 points and eight rebounds per game while leading her team to the state tournament.
She was a four-time all-district player, twice named all-region and twice earned awards for best offensive player, best field goal percentage and best free-throw percentage.
In addition to a successful high school basketball career, Garner also played softball for three seasons and golf for one season. Off the court, Garner was elected as president of her senior class, a member of the student council and was also the Pickett County Homecoming Queen.
Garner is the daughter of Terrell and Vickie Garner of Pall Mall, and is a member of the Albany First Baptist Church.
