Relay For Life this Friday
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Pickett County with a theme of “Together We Fight, Together We Win” is scheduled for Friday, June 10, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the PCHS Athletic Field and in case of rain at the PCHS gym.
Cancer Survivor registration will start at 5:00 p.m. and we encourage survivor participation as this is an important part of the Relay For Life event. Balloons for the balloon release may be purchased in memory or in honor of a loved one at the Relay on Friday evening from 4:30 to 5:30 for $1.00 each.
Returning this year is the Car Show with the addition of a Motorcycle Show, registration from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday evening with a $10.00 entry fee. Prizes will be awarded on Best of Show, Under Construction, and Best Interior judging will be done by out of town judges we will also have People’s Choice determined by monetary vote, the winners will be announced at 9:00 p.m. Make plans now to come out and enjoy the ceremonies, auction, entertainment, food, and fellowship. Parking will be available at the top of the hill and handicapped parking at the field.
Participating teams for this year are Bloomington Christian Church, First Baptist Church, Byrdstown First United Methodist Church, Conner Family, Moodyville Missionary Baptist Church, Union Bank and Williams Chapel Church. Teams will have individual campsites and would like to invite everyone to visit as some will have food and activities.
You will want to check out the auction as there are always some great items to bid on. Lip sync and the pajama party are always entertaining and just about everyone get thrown into Jail sometime during the event. Reta Crouch and Lori Love will bring on the games and activities galore and Pickett County’s very own Mark Young with My DJ Service will keep everyone pumped up and awake throughout the event.
We have a very special luminaria ceremony planned this year which also includes the return of our slide show of purchased luminaria. This event is open to the general public and attendance is greatly encouraged. You do not have to be on a Relay For Life team to attend and participate in the auction or watch special events of the night. Come out and enjoy this community wide event we call “Relay For Life of Pickett County” all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society funding research, patient support, local programs and services.
