Budget passed with tax increase, although tax rate not yet set

The Pickett County Commissioners met in a special called meeting on July 29, 2011. Present and presiding was the Honorable Johnie Neal, Chairman and Robert Lee, Clerk of the Court. Court was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Clerk Lee who turned the meeting over to Chairman Neal. The invocation was given by Johnie Neal. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was given by all. All commissioners were present. The following is action taken at that meeting:
•Passed a motion by Daniel Masiongale and seconded by Kenny Tompkins to approve the agenda as presented. All ayes. Motion carried.
•Carried a motion by Lana Rossi and seconded by Becky Matheny to approve the Appropriation Resolution for budget year ending June 30, 2012 as amended. All ayes, except for Tony Beaty, Joe Harden, Colan Huddleston, Terry Manis, Daniel Masiongale and Lowell Winningham. Chairman Neal broke the tie with an aye. Motion carried.
•Motion by Lana Rossi and seconded by Becky Matheny to approve the Tax Levy Resolution for budget year ending June 30, 2012, the tax levy being $1.67. All ayes except, Tony Beaty, Joe Harden, Colan Huddleston, Doug Manis, Terry Manis, Daniel Masiongale and Lowell Winningham. Vote of 5 ayes and 7 nays. Motion failed.
Discussed Non-Profit organization appropriation resolution with no action taken.
Discussed the budget with no action taken.
Discussed Resolution 11/12-1 with no action taken.
•Passed a motion by Colan Huddleston and seconded by Terry Manis to adjourn until the next scheduled County Court Meeting on August 15, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the community room of the Pickett County Library without roll call.
