TDOT stocking up salt

TDOT stocking up saltThe Tennessee Department of Transportation in Pickett County is stocked and ready to clear roadways of ice and snow. TDOT has three salt vendors to refill salt bins in all 95 Tennessee counties. Pictured here TDOT employee Les Reeder looks on as more salt is delivered.
The salt is applied to roads once snow has started to accumulate, the salt brine is a pre-treatment prior to a winter storm or to help melt snow when temperatures are around the freezing mark.
When snow hits Pickett County, TDOT ice and snow removal teams focus on clearing state roadways and will specifically target areas vulnerable to freezing such as hills, curves and bridges.
